A clear measure-up saves time and money. Here is a practical approach to estimating cladding quantities for your project.

Break the elevation into rectangles

Start by dividing each wall into simple rectangles. Measure the width and height of each section in metres, multiply for the area, and add them together. Treat gables as triangles - base times height, divided by two.

Subtract major openings

Deduct the area of large windows and doors. For lots of small openings it is often easier - and safer for ordering - to leave them in as an allowance for offcuts and waste.

Add a waste allowance

Allow for cutting waste, especially on angled or detailed elevations. A typical allowance is around ten per cent, more for complex facades with lots of cuts and junctions.

Note the direction of the boards

Decide whether boards run horizontally or vertically - it affects coverage, the look and the setout. Vertical battens and boards shed water well and emphasise height; horizontal emphasises width.

Send us your numbers

Once you have rough areas and a few photos, send them through. We can help refine the quantities, recommend profiles and provide a quote in AUD. For larger jobs we can work from your plans.

Put real numbers on your project
